Self-Survival Tool Kit…Staying Sane While Juggling Life

6.  Get creative!

It’s time to have some fun with art and colors! Take up an art class or learn a new musical instrument.  Don’t be shy and don’t assume you won’t be good at something just because you have never tried it. Reconnect with the “artist” in you!

7.    Multitasking is a big “no” “no”!

Recognize that the idea of multitasking is a concept and is not a reality that has a positive outcome. Just because you do it does not mean it works well.  It’s like trying to text while driving your car, you may do it but you will either drive poorly, text incorrectly or create an accident.  At the end, the results of all three are affected in a negative way.

8.    Maintain a social outlet.

Having your own friends separate from those of your partner and kids is important.  It may be just a girlfriend or two but they are yours. Meet with them for coffee, chat on the phone and build a friendship that will last a lifetime. Dedicate the time it deserves and it will payoff in the long run.

9.    Dare to be adventurous!

Get excited about this one!  I mean really think about all the things you always wanted to do as a kid and never pursued.  Here is your chance and it’s not too late.  I recently signed up with a modeling agency and have starting doing some modeling, acting and even did a few commercials! If someone had told me I would be doing this in my 50’s I would have laughed hysterically, yet here I am. Make a list, create a plan and start chipping away. Nothing is too silly and you’ll never know if you don’t try.

10.  Be silent…be still.

One of the most difficult things I found in my journey back to myself was establishing a meditation practice. The “monkey mind” is so busy and we are so conditioned to always be running around and stay moving that we find ourselves just not knowing what being still even should feel like. “Being present” can become one of the most difficult things to do, yet is the most important personal practices I have come to understand.

It is a daily practice and must be a priority.  Recognize it as a vital part of your daily routine, build on it in small increments and eventually you will begin to enjoy the rewards of being still.  If you don’t take the time to silence the mind, you will miss the “whispers” that help guide you along the way.

Surviving the Juggling Act of life and staying sane along the way is a constant battle we must all manage.  Knowing we are not alone in the process as we travel our own
“Yellow Brick Road” is part of the beautiful path.  I hope you take this Tool Box of 10 Tips and always keep it near.   Knowing that you matter and that sometimes, the balls that fall along the way may be best left to roll on by just as they may, knowing they were never meant to be kept up.

Keep what is important to you and those you love, be true to yourself and always be willing to venture out into new territory!
