The Requirements

Social recruiting requires an investment of time, energy and personality. To be really effective as a social recruiter you must build your reputation with the right people in the right communities. If you want to attract the people who will contribute you need to, well, attract them. Way back in 1990 Bill Joy, co-founder of Sun Microsystems, said that “No matter who you are, most of the smartest people work for someone else.” It is often true and in today’s economy they often also work for themselves. If you are seeking to recruit the best talent you have to find and impress them, not always with perks and material rewards, but more often with intelligent, interesting and challenging ideas and opportunities.

This is where your connected employees come in. Your recruitment team cannot be everywhere and often cannot say the things that need to be said, but your connected employees can bridge any knowledge gaps. Because your connected employees are already in the social media space and are often already talking about what interests them they have the ability to spot and attract potential talent. It your connected employees are already out there talking and learning about the information they need to do their jobs well, that can mean they have the opportunity to connect with your future talent and attract or repel them from your organization.

In the previous article I talked about how your connected employees can engage others and mine their connected intelligences for disruptive innovations. In that article I outlined your need to allow them to share some of your insider information to facilitate this attraction to potential contributors, be they potential new employees or potential contingent and freelance contributors. By sharing, you enable others to see what you are about and what you have to offer. You do not need to be a company with trade secrets, patents or protected intellectual property. You can share best practices, process, company culture, new products and services, tricks of the trade and more. By allowing your connected employees to contribute to the relevant community of potential employees, the smartest people who work for someone else may come and find you.

Boosting Your Bottom Line
