Fall Fashion Kick-Off!!

Hello Fashionistas,

I know it’s so sad that we are desperately grasping to the last remains of summer, but fear not–every season is fun for a different reason. Just think–now you can start to plan your new fall wardrobe and if you’re anywhere in the upper 1/3 of the U.S., you can truly start to think about sweaters, pants, jackets, boots, etc.—who couldn’t use a change in fashion scenery??

I have been enjoying my month of August just as the Europeans do and making it my “vacation month” as you may have noticed from my last few blog posts. I can see why you might start to wonder about my commitment to the “fashionista” part of the content, but I am getting ready to get back on the Fall 2014 fashion bandwagon!! I always feel that fall is when fashion is at it’s most exciting!! I’ll be busy with market week next week in our showroom and I have lots of exciting meetings going on–they are so top secret I can’t even tell you and it’s killing me!! Fall Fashion week has also been going on in the city. And lastly, I’ll be embarking on my annual fall fashion trend finding mission trip to London/Paris/Dusseldorf in a couple of weeks. This is when fashion is at it’s most inspiring for me! I  get to see what’s in stores for Fall 2014 and my brain shifts into development for Fall 2015 for work—so many seasons, so little time!!! But I love it!!!

So with the beginnings of fall fashion starting to surround us, but still with the crazy, unbearable, hot humid NY weather this past week–today was questionable as to how it would shake out. I was thoroughly exhausted from a hectic week of getting things ready for our busy market week so I managed to catch a few extra zzz’s this morning to get recharged, but once I got up and running and had a bit of caffeine, I knew I would be thoroughly bored if I just sat around all day today in my cozy central air conditioned house. I decided I would take you on a local tour of some of the best boutiques in my neck of the woods.

Put your sunglasses on, hop in the car with me for a little joyride. We’re headed just a bit south of my home–we’ll crank some fun summer music with the sunroof open (and blast the air) and hit the road to do some fall preview shopping!!!! Bring your credit cards!!

Tenafly, NJ
This is one of my new finds, courtesy of Paul Sprieser (our boat captain from my “Everything Under the Sun” blog entry).

His wife is cousins with Gina Curko, the owner of See Saw Boutique in Tenafly. Opened in 2004, she carries a hands down beautiful collection of designer brands. She has an amazing eye for wonderful details in fashion. I loved chatting with her today because just like me, she is so fired up about clothing–there’s just something about people who admire the beauty in design. It’s a bit like an adrenaline rush!!

Gina and I so are on the same page!!

This stunning number is now in my closet just waiting for a reason to wear it!!

Back View–Tadahhh!!!

This little lady got a try on and is currently on hold for now. She is pretty stunning!

Wildfox rainbow color open stitch pull-over is super fun and whimsical!

My next stop in Tenafly is Mint, which is a designer consignment shop of really high end accessories. The store had just received a large collection of Chanel jewelry and handbags when I walked in the door. The most gorgeous collection of pieces I’ve ever had the pleasure to lay my eyes on….good finds if you can hit it right…

If you’re looking for designer jewelry, sunglasses, handbags, shoes, belts–this is your place!!

Next Town Over–We hit Englewood
Englewood has SO MANY cute boutiques with lots of new on the scene designers. That is what makes these stores so special as you will truly find very unique pieces and want to spend lots of time in each store. It’s hard to hit all of their great boutiques in one day even though it’s a pretty small town.
I start out at Erez by Amy K. on Dean St. Amy, herself, is working the store and shows me all of the new fall product that has just arrived. My goal is to find something!! I’m on a mission to get my new fall wardrobe started!!
Arriving at Erez…

Goal achieved….Check out this hot “oxblood red” dress with amazing cutouts and matching faux leather piecing
The back is even more amazing!! We will be checking this dress out in more detail in future blogs to come!!
Side bar stop..
If you’re looking for a sweet stop in the middle of your shopping in Englewood, pop into Cupcakes for a sweet treat!!
A well deserved break!!
The whole outlook of the store-front is just sweetness!

Need a special occasion outfit…I wish I did because these gowns and cocktail dresses are to die for at Miri!!!

Welcome to Miri..

Everything about this store is just beautiful

Beautiful blues make a bit of a casual outlook in a gown.
How is that possible??? I love it!

This gorgeous piece of art is a champagne netting with a beautiful over-embroidered floral pattern done in some sweet sorbet colors.
Again, just another amazing way of making a gown with a bit of a whimsical feel to it–ingenious!!

Close-up on that killer over-embroidery

What a cocktail dress!!

It’s hard to appreciate in a photo, but the most lovely pleated workmanship on this feminine lace dress
Winter is coming at Vogue M on Dean St.

Bring it on!

It’s all about easy weekend denim, sweaters, and scarves at Vogue M. Heavenly wear for true fall weather days! Pumpkin patches, apple picking, football games—yes, I’m starting to feel it!

Last stop of the day…
Well turning the corner in Englewood, NJ from Dean St. onto Palisades Ave, I have hit my last stop and this is always a favorite. It happens to be 10 til 7 and the store closes at 7, but I know for certain I’m going to be in here a while because this is the scavenger hunt of stores!! It’s called Second Time Around and it is a well curated collection of consignment clothing–the most pedigreed labels!!
Erica who is managing the store is the nicest and lets me in to stay a while. My laser beam vision has scouted out a Vince silk top, Alexander Wang pants, a Max Mara cowl neck dress, a Chloe denim dress, a Missoni sweater dress, Lanvin heels…..oh my goodness, the list is going on forever. I ask Erica how long she plans to stay tonight.
I managed to score an awesome load of beautiful styles at a great deal. We did a bit of “Let’s Make A Deal” before we rang up the purchase and I know I got an incredible deal on everything. Just the most amazing pieces that have either been rarely worn or in some cases, still had price tags on them!!
Late Night Shopping at Second Time Around

The most accommodating and helpful staff

Well, I wasn’t planning on having such a successful day of shopping, but I’m super excited as I now have a wonderful jumping off point for fall. If this doesn’t get you excited too for the change of seasons, I don’t know what will!!! One of the best things you can do is to really scout out some of these small boutiques in any town because you can really find some of the most special pieces of clothing and the managers and owners really appreciate your support. They take a vested interest in making sure they have the items their customers are looking for. There is nothing like the feeling of walking into these stores and the people there knowing your name and ready to show you new things that they already know you will like–they have your number dialed in!!
Happy Shopping To All!!
