3. Enable success.
Every team needs a coach and tools. Few teams can self-grow these assets. Management should approach enabling the building of teams to achieve sustained weight loss like any other business team. Work associates will want, and need, expertise and tools to enable success.
4. Create fun.
Teams are meant to be motivating. Attempting weight loss is definitely not a motivating experience. It is a challenge. Enable the team with the ability to have fun. Celebrate success. Enable friendships. Pioneering research now points to having fun as a key step toward enabling sustained weight loss.
5. Don’t measure weight.
Not measuring individual weight within a program focused on achieving individual weight loss is totally counterintuitive for a business. A business practice is that what you measure is what your work associates will do. However, research points to measuring individual weight as being highly stressful. And stress is proven to generate weight gain.
The circular logic is that the more you weight yourself the more stress you create and then the more likely you will be to eat comfort food, feel the need to relax rather exercise and engage in other weight gaining actions that appear to reduce stress.
The effective weight loss team focus is to identify and measure activities that determine weight. The goal is to change behavior. The result will be sustained individual weight loss.
