IWB-career Innovation

Gifted not only in his ability to understand complex technical issues, but also in his aptitude to apply, explain and market those concepts, Irving Wladawsky-Berger has made a career out of doing so, first at IBM and then beyond the Armonk, N.Y.-based corporation

After receiving his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Chicago, Irving Waldawsky-Berger began working for IBM at the internally recognized Watson Research Center. He remained there for 15 years before he took a position in the company’s Development organization.

In that Development role he helped transition IBM mainframes to micro-processors and worked with the research and scientific community to help Big Blue become a world leader in supercomputing.  When the Internet emerged as a business tool in the early 1990s, Irving created strategies that are still being used today. He was also instrumental in IBM’s embracing of Linux and open-source communities. Irving is proud of his contributions to IBM and also his post-IBM career.
