Meet Yvette A. Aleman, a Hispanic Woman of Distinction
Yvette is the President and CEO of F.R. Aleman & Associates, Inc. (FRA), a Woman and Hispanic Owned Consulting Engineering & Surveying Firm specialized in planning, design and construction oversight of public infrastructure projects for nearly three decades. She is a registered professional engineer in several states across the country and is primarily responsible for the firm’s recognition by Hispanic Business Magazine among the “Top 500 Largest Hispanic-owned Companies in the United States” and by the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce as “One of the 100th Largest Hispanic Business Enterprises in Miami-Dade County”.
Under her leadership, FRA was awarded “Employer of the Year” numerous times by Miami-Dade County Public Schools Business Cooperative Education. In late 2014, Yvette accepted the "Engineering Company of the Year Sunshine Award" from the South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Yvette earned a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Miami in 1989 with honors and a Masters Degree in Civil Engineering from Florida International University in 1992 while working at one of Florida’s largest engineering firms, Post, Buckley, Schuh and Jernigan, Inc., now known as Atkins. Five years later, she graduated from her Masters of Business Administration from Florida International University.
In 2006, Yvette was appointed by Governor Jeb Bush to the Board of Directors of The Children’s Trust in Miami-Dade County for a four year term and remained two additional years under Governor Charlie Crist and Governor Rick Scott. In 2006, as a founding Board Member of the City of South Miami’s Free Children’s Clinic, Yvette worked towards the realization of a much needed charitable organization that provides free healthcare to uninsured children in the community. During that time, she graduated from Leadership Florida (LF Class XXIV), and immediately thereafter became Chair of the Southeast Regional Council of Advisors. From 2008 to 2010, she served on Leadership Florida’s Statewide Board of Directors.
Yvette has been on the Governing Board of Baptist Health South Florida System’s (BHSF) South Miami Hospital (SMH) since 2005. She is involved in many hospital committees including but not limited to: SMH’s Performance Improvement Committee (Founding Chairperson), SMH’s Ad-Hoc Marketing Committee (Member), BHSF Executive Human Resources Committee (SMH Representative) and SMH’s Women and Infants Center (Past Member). She is also active with the Young Philanthropists of Baptist Health South Florida.
Yvette was asked " How do you intertwine your culture in your work?"
"As a first generation Cuban American born and raised in Miami, I have strived to emulate the work ethic my father instilled in me at at an early age and foster this principle in every thing I do at FRA. We treat our staff as family and encourage them to produce quality work to exceed the expectations of the client.
In 2009, Yvette was honored as one of three Finalists in the Architecture and Engineering category in the March of Dimes Community Excellence Awards – for "Professional Excellence as well as Outstanding Efforts, Leadership and Commitment for the Betterment of our Community.
She also received the American Diabetes Association 2008 Valor Award for the significant difference she has made in South Florida through her leadership, commitment and dedication to the community. Yvette holds the title "2014 Woman of the Year for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society South Florida Chapter" as a result of raising over $100,000 in her endeavor to eliminate blood cancers.
She routinely participates in mentorship programs for women in engineering and construction and supports the annual Florida Department of Transportation FSECC United Way Charity Golf Tournaments.
Yvette will be honored as a Hispanic Woman of Distinction at anticipated sell-out luncheon set for August 14, 2015 at the Signature Grand in Davie, Florida along with 12 other Latinas from Palm Beach, Broward and Dade Counties. The 14tth annual Hispanic Women of Distinction charity event is presented by Latina Style Magazine in partnership with Bank of America, Univision Networks and Latin Business Today.
